On May 30, 2014, Fostering Hope purchased Camp Lakodia to continue to preserve the Camp and its continued success as a natural sanctuary for South Dakota’s children and families on a journey of self-discovery, healing, and life change encompassing the entire person— mind, body, and spirit.
A VAcation that Gives Back
Camp Lakodia, a 4-season retreat in Southeast South Dakota is committed to making a difference in the lives of South Dakota's foster children. Every reservation at Camp Lakodia is an investment in the future of the facility and it's uses for the foster care community.
Camp Lakodia’s long history of serving the youth of South Dakota began in 1941, when Camp Lakodia was built as a Work Project Administration (WPA) on a 15-acre tract of land purchased and donated by neighboring businesses. As a rich part of South Dakota heritage, each of Camp Lakodia's cabins and many of the other buildings were named for Native American tribes and bands that once lived in the vicinity. Camp Lakodia was owned by 4-H until July 2002, when Communication Service for the Deaf (CSD) made the purchase. CSD invested a tremendous amount of resources to make improvements to the camp allowing for year-round usage. The original camp buildings were completely renovated to accommodate 21st century conveniences. In addition to the renovated facilities, new buildings were constructed including the Dining Hall and Turk Lodge.
Camp Lakodia provides a unique setting for most any event. Year- round facilities with recreational opportunities are suited to each of South Dakota’s breathtaking seasons. Camp Lakodia combines the peaceful relaxation of a tranquil retreat with a full complement of modern amenities, making it the perfect location for weddings, retreats, conferences and reunions. Camp Lakodia offers a number of facilities suitable for events of all sizes. With meeting rooms seating over 400, banquet seating for 200, guest accommodations for up to 150, an auditorium, reception hall, spacious grounds and on-site catering, our event facilities cater to a variety of gatherings.
By supporting the foster care community and developing camps and retreats, Fostering Hope is dedicated to providing opportunities for these children to BELIEVE, DREAM and discover NEW HOPE for their FUTURE. When you book a reservation at Camp Lakodia, you are investing in the future of some of the most at-risk children in our community – children in foster care.
